Tanjung Puting — Orangutans, Rainforests & River Worlds

Arrive at Iskandar Airport and transfer to Kumai to board your private klotok. Cruise along the Sekonyer River, watching the forested banks for monkeys and birds. If arrival timing permits, walk to Tanjung Harapan’s feeding area with your guide and ranger. Settle aboard for your first evening on the river; an optional guided night walk may be arranged when conditions allow.

Visit Pondok Tanggui for a forest walk to the orangutan feeding area, then continue along the darker tributary waters towards Camp Leakey. Explore its trails and learn about the site’s longstanding role in orangutan research and conservation. Observe from a respectful distance before returning to your klotok for a quiet evening on the river.

Walk beneath the forest canopy with your guide and ranger, learning about local plants, wildlife habitats and forest regeneration. Where conditions allow, continue by small canoe along a quieter tributary. A visit to a designated restoration area may include planting a native tree, subject to local arrangements. Return to the river for your final evening, looking for fireflies among the nipa palms as darkness falls.

Activity: Approximately 4 hours of walking, depending on trail and weather conditions

Wildlife sightings, including orangutans and fireflies, depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed. Visits follow park schedules and ranger guidance, with activities adjusted to weather, river conditions and flight times.

Forest walks follow natural trails that may be wet or uneven. Canoe excursions, night walks and tree planting are subject to local availability and arrangements.

Cruise downstream to Kumai, with a final opportunity to watch the forested riverbanks. Disembark and continue by private vehicle to Iskandar Airport for your onward flight, or to your hotel in Pangkalan Bun if extending your stay. Transfers are arranged around your departure schedule.
