Journey Overview
Begin with a boat journey through Rammang-Rammang, where limestone towers rise above waterways and rice fields. Continue north to Toraja, your base for three nights at Santai Toraja Hotel.
Explore the burial sites of Lemo and Londa, the tongkonan houses of Kete Kesu and the standing stones of Bori Kalimbuang. Dawn views from Lolai and village walks around Batutumonga reveal another side of the highlands, where cultivated terraces follow the slopes of Mount Sesean.
Itinerary
Day 1 — Makassar → Rammang-Rammang → Parepare → Bambapuang → Toraja
Begin at Makassar Airport or your city hotel and travel to Rammang-Rammang. Explore by traditional wooden boat, passing limestone towers, rice fields and rural settlements. Continue north through Parepare, pausing for lunch near the coast and coffee or tea overlooking Bambapuang. Reach Toraja and settle into Santai Toraja Hotel, your base for three nights.
Day 2 — Toraja → Buntu Burake → Lemo → Londa → Kete Kesu → Toraja
Begin at Buntu Burake, where the Christ statue overlooks the surrounding highlands. Discover Lemo’s cliff graves and tau tau effigies, then explore the burial caves of Londa. At Kete Kesu, tongkonan houses, rice barns and intricate woodcarvings offer insight into the family ties and ancestral beliefs that shape Torajan life.
Day 3 — Toraja → Lolai → Bori Kalimbuang → Batutumonga → Loko Mata → Toraja
Set out for Lolai at dawn, with views across the valleys when weather allows. Visit the standing stones of Bori Kalimbuang before continuing to Batutumonga on the slopes of Mount Sesean. An easy walk follows rice terraces and village paths, with time to observe daily farming life. Discover the boulder tombs of Loko Mata before returning to your hotel.
Day 4 — Toraja → Parepare → Makassar Airport
Descend from Toraja’s highlands through the countryside of South Sulawesi. Pause for lunch near Parepare, overlooking the Makassar Strait, before continuing to Makassar. Your journey concludes with a private transfer to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport or your city hotel.
